This is a very tasty and simple tofu recipe. Stay Healthy...
First thing first, you have to prepare the tofu for the marinade:
Drain the Tofu and cut in pieces half of inch of thick. You may cut it into triangles or strips.
Put the tofu on the cloth or a napkin to get rid of the water.
On a medium heat you have to evaporate all the water out of tofu pieces.
You do not use oil for this process and have to be very careful with the tofu. Slow cooking is the key to the good result. It may take up to 10 minutes to get rid of all water. You will have to press the pieces gently without breaking them, so the water evaporate faster. After one side of tofu is brown you can turn it over and do the same with the other side.
Right now Tofu is ready to be marinated. To prepare the marinade, just combine all the ingredients. Do not forget to chop the garlic and peel the ginger. The longer you marinate Tofu the better. In case you are short in time, 1 hour will do.
While Tofu is being marinated in the fridge, you cut the pepper, onion and dill.
Heat Olive oil in the pan and add onions with pepper. Cook for 3 minutes and add marinated tofu. You may put 3 tablespoons of the marinade in the pan. Cook for 5-8 minutes, add salt, pepper and the fresh dill.
Sprinkle lemon juice on top.
Serve separately or over brown rice.
BigOven Tip: Easily make this ahead of time! Tofu can be marinated for up to 36 hours.
It is highly recommended to buy Extra Firm Tofu, as it will be much easier to operate with - soft tofu is extremely easy to break, so it will not hold its shape during the cooking process.
If you are using a stainless steel pan (or any other pan without a non stick coating) you will mostly likely have a lot of trouble with the tofu sticking to the pan since no oil used. So very well seasoned cast-iron pan will be the best choice!
