"Only improvement possible: pour batter into pan. Beat 8 oz softened cream cheese, 1 egg & 1/3 cup sugar, spoon over batter, sprinkle with chocolate chips. Bake 45 min @ 350. No icing needed. Total chocolate bliss."

Ingredients

Are you making this? 
2 cups Flour, all purpose
1 teaspoon Salt
1 teaspoon Baking Powder
2 teaspoon Baking soda
3/4 cup Unsweetened cocoa
2 cups Sugar
1 cup Vegetable oil
1 cup Hot coffee
1 cup milk
2 Eggs
1 teaspoon Vanilla

Original recipe makes 12

Servings  

Preparation

Sift together all dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Add oil, coffee and milk; mix at medium speed for 2 minutes. Add eggs and vanilla; beat 2 more minutes. Pour into two greased and floured 9" cake pans (or two 8-inch cake pans and 6 muffin cups)

Bake at 325 degrees for 25-30 minutes. Meanwhile make favorite icing...

1 c milk

5T all purpose flour

1/2C butter softened

1/2 C shortening

1 C sugar

1 tsp. vanilla extract

For icing combine milk and flour in a saucepan and cook until thick . Cover and refrigerate. In a medium mixing bowl, beat butter, shortening, sugar and vanilla until creamy. Add chilled milk/flour mixture. beat for 10 minutes..no less

Frost cooled cake. Can refrigerate cake when cool...

Very good and easy to make. Made cupcakes and topped with peanut butter icing.

If you like a frosting that is light and not very sweet this one is that, but it is buttery. The cake is fabulous.
