This molasses cookie recipe is a favorite of our family handed down 3 generations to date. Soft and chewy but if they get hard they are great dunked in milk.
Cream shortening and sugar. Add molasses and egg. Beat well. Sift flour, soda, cinnamon, cloves, ginger and salt together. Add to first mixture. Mix well. Cover and chill approximately 30 minutes. Form into 1-inch balls and roll in sugar. Place on greased cookie sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes at 375(F) degrees. Remove cookies from oven and cool on wire rack.
