This is a wholesome and delicious bread, that is a favorite of our family. Makes great toast.
Dissolve yeast in warm water
Blend in shortening, brown sugar, salt, and oatmeal
Stir in 1/2 the flour with a spoon, continuing to blend
Add remainder of the flour and mix with hands
Turn dough onto lightly floured board and let rest 10 minutes
Knead until smooth
Place in greased bowl, cover with towel, allow to rise until double in size
Divide into two loaves
Place into greased loaf pans
Allow to rise until double
Bake 350 degrees for 30 minutes
If quick oats are used, add 1/2 cup more
