Try this My Favorite Golden Cornbread recipe, or contribute your own.
Combine cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Add milk, egg and shortening. Beat until fairly smooth, about 1 minute. Bake in greased 8-inch square baking pan in a preheated hot oven (425 degrees) for about 20-25 minutes. NOTES : I use 1/2 cup sugar and bake in a 9-inch square baking pan. CarmenE 2y agoExcellent cornbread. Made as directed except used only 2 tablespoons if sugar. Served with pinto beans cooked with ham. Yum!
kelligist 3y agoThis cornbread has the texture of cake! Delicious! When I want a more traditional style, I cut the sugar in half, and substitute buttermilk for milk.

happycookin 4y agoYears ago this recipe appeared on the back of OuakerOats cornmeal box--not anymore. Other recipes are not as good. So simple, you can memorize the ingredients!
