A chocolatey twist to French pastry.
Put the butter in the milk and warm them up in the microwave, until the butter is melted (120-140 degrees). In a mixing bowl combine flour, active dry yeast and sugar. Make a hole in the center and put the milk, butter and eggs in. Gently beat them with a fork. Combine all ingredients until dough makes a soft dough ball and doesn't stick to sides of bowl. Knead for about 10 minutes, until the dough is smooth and soft and very springing. You might need to add a bit of extra flour.
Make a ball with the dough and place it in a bowl covered with plastic wrap. Let it rise for about 2 hours in a warm (and not humid place) until double. I usually place in the oven with just the light on.
When it has risen enough Divide into 4 equal parts.
Make the layers!
1) with a rolling pin on a floured surface, Roll the first piece of dough flat. Try to make a round shape about 9.5-11 inches of diameter. Place onto a pastry lined cooking sheet. Spread Nutella on top gently, leaving the very edge uncovered so it will seal.
2) Roll the second piece of dough flat and cover the first layer of nutella. Press gently the borders with your fingers. Spread a new layer of nutella on top.
3) Roll the third piece of dough flat and cover the second layer of Nutella. Spread a new layer of nutella on top. Press gently the borders with your fingers.
4) Roll the fourth piece of dough flat and cover the third layer of nutella. Press gently the borders with your fingers to be sure they are closed.
Place a small cup in the center of the bread to use as a template to cut around. Starting at the edge of the bowl and cutting outward, Cut the dough in quarters, then cut them in half and in another half. You will get 16 sections cut out from a circular per center. Twist the sections alternating the twisting direction. Fix the ends of two the sections together so they will form 8 petals. Let the dough rise for 30 to 45 minutes.
Preheat the oven at 350 degrees. Brush the top of the bread with milk and bake for 25 to 30 minutes until it is a nice light brown color. Dust with sugar if desired.
Let it cool at room temperature for about 30 minutes before to serve. Serve cold or warm.
