This recipe will yield about 3 onion rings per person.
For Onions
1. Oil needs to be heated to 350*
2. On white cutting board, cut onions into rings about 1/4 of an inch thick
3. Separate rings
For Tempura Batter
1. Add 1 1/3 cups ice water to tempura batter and whisk until large lumps disappear and mix is moist. Batter should be lumpy.
2. Add cayenne pepper and salt
3. Mix evenly
4. Drop in one ice cube
DO NOT STIR BATTER AFTER MIXING
For Panko Bread crumbs
1. Place crumbs in bowl
Frying
1. Dip rings into the Tempura batter until rings are covered in batter evenly
2. Place batter covered rings into the bread crumbs until completely coated in bread crumbs
3. Place into the deep fryer until golden brown (about 2-3 minutes; watch carefully and closely)
4. Place over paper towels to drain excess oil
