Always a holiday favorite around my house. It has become the most requested recipe that I have to date. This recipe yields 4 loaves.
Roll the dough out with a rolling pin until completely flat and thin. Use very little flour for this process. The dough should be in more of a square shape and less round.
Place slice after slice of pepperoni onto the dough, covering every area of it. (I usually put about 2 layers so it's full of pepperoni :-) ).
Place about 6 slices of cheese over the pepperoni. (I have been putting more than that lately and I like it more cheesy, so you may want to buy more than a pound of cheese.)
Fold the sides of the dough in and then start rolling it up from the front to the back, but not in roll form... fold it slowly to create more of a flattened bread shape. Leave some excess dough at the end to fold over and seal it.
Use warm water to seal the last part of the dough over the front, this will act as a glue.
Place on greased baking pan and drizzle very little olive oil all over it.
Put in the oven on 425° for usually about 20-30 min (different depending on the oven). I would check it every now and then to see if it is browning on the bottom. You want it to be a rich, dark, golden brown before turning it.
Once it is completely cooked... take it out and let it sit for about 1/2 hour at least before cutting. For the Sauce: Put the Hunt's sauce in a pot on the stove Add the full stalk of fresh basil, shred it or cut it. add just a little bit of salt and pepper stir under boiling Simmer and continue stirring for at least 10 minutes. You are ready!
Don't skimp on the pepperoni or cheese, but the pepperoni is most important.
