To make sauce, cook onion in butter or margarine till tender but not brown. Stir in flour, 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt, and 1/8 teaspoon pepper. Add milk. Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly. Cook and stir 1 to 2 minutes more.
In a 2 quart casserole place 1/2 of the cubed ham and half of the sliced potatoes. Cover with half the sauce. Repeat layers. Bake covered in 350 F oven for 45 minutes. Uncover and bake 30 minutes more or untill potatoes are done.

tracyes11 6 months agoLove this recipe. I make a double batch and use bigger baker. I also ad a layer of grated swiss cheese in the middle! Fabulous!
denisejgriffith 10 months agoVery good. Added to my personal recipe book. I added shredded parmesan to the layers and also to the top after removing foil during baking. Only change is less salt...parmesan added some and with the ham already, it didn't need much of what the original recipe called for.

Franstansmith 1 year agoMade this recipe tonight to use a leftover ham joint. After the 45 minute stage we added cheddar cheese onto the top layer. Lovely! And very filling! Definitely make this again!
