Great with ham or meat loaf.
Cook onion and garlic in butter until tender. Stir in flour, salt and pepper. Add milk. Cook and stir over medium heat until thick and bubbly. Stir in cheese until melted.
Place half of potatoes in greased 3-quart rectangular dish. Top with half of sauce. Repeat.
Bake covered for 45 minutes. Uncover and bake another 40 - 50 minutes until potatoes are tender. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.
