Simple Baked Tofu

The tofu is marinated and baked. Very tasty!

Ingredients

1 block firm tofu
3 tablespoons soy sauce
3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar; (or other type)
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon Salt (or to taste)
1 teaspoon pepper; (white or black; or both)
1 tablespoon olive oil

Preparation

Cube the tofu and add the other ingredients in a mixing bowl.

You can either let marinate the tofu or bake it right away.

The best way to mix it up is to toss between 2 bowls until evenly covered.

If you have a cooling rack, lay out the tofu on the rack with a tray underneath to catch the excess liquid.

Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes, then remove the tray and put the rack back in for another 15 or until it starts to get golden brown edges.

I was hoping this dish would change my mind about tofu. It didn't. It's gross!

I have not ever baked tofu but I really, REALLY wanted to try this since I have a cousin in town that lives on the stuff. I did not think it was too salty but if soy sauce, basalmic vinegaer and addition of salt is too much you can always leave out the salt our use no salt soy sauce! I was delighted with the simplicity of this dish and look forward to another visit from my cousin!

I am wondering if the amounts are correct in the recipe. I followed it correctly and the tofu was extremely salty; not surprising considering balsamic vinegar and soy sauce are very high in salt and then you are adding an additional tablespoon of salt. The flavor was ok, but just way too salty.

Simply great recipe for marinating tofu. Everyone seems to love it, from my 1 year old daughter to my meat-eating friends. Delicious baked in the oven or grilled on the BBQ!

Notes This will keep in the fridge for at least a couple of days, and you can throw them in stirfries or salads or whatever. When they are warm, the flavor comes out better; but where I worked we would just eat them cold while we were cooking. These are pretty good on the grill, too.
