Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour 9x9 pan or line muffin pan with paper liners. In medium bowl, cream togehter the sugar and butter. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Combine the flour and baking powder, add to the creamed mixture and mix well. Finally stir in the milk until batter is smooth. Pour or spoon batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes in preheated oven. For cupcakes bake 20 to 25 minutes. Cake is done when it springs back to the touch.

amygoostree 1 month agoNot sure what I did wrong but it turned out more like cornbread. When making a cake instead of cupcakes, it turned out really dense. It has potential but not sure how to correct the problem I'm having with this recipe. I even cooked it way less than the suggested time.
Hannahcain 1 month agoWas in a hurry and away from my usual cookbooks, hastily began this recipe for a character cake tin and was disappointed it did not quite fill (box mix does the trick). Only baked 20 min, finished moist and airy because I exchanged applesauce for sugar 1:1. Tastes fine. If you need a character tin or layer cake, increase 50% (i.e. 3 eggs, 2 1/4 c flour, etc).

Krusherkins 2 months agoThese are easy and so moist! Maybe bake them a bit less than the time given. My oven runs hot so 17-20 min was enough. Can't imagine others came out with dry cake! Delicious!

momtologankayleenmason 4 months agoI'm giving this a 3 only because maybe I did something wrong - but I cannot imagine what that could be? Very dry, my buttercream frosting was great and I put a ton on it and the kids didn't notice, but was very disappointed, sorry!

Jeanwgriffin 5 months agoMaybe it makes good cupcakes but as a cake it is too dry and dense. I tried it several times...I give up. If you need a sturdy dense cake this is it. If you want light and fluffy, keep searching.
