Fry bacon in large heavy saucepan until crisp. Remove all but about 2 tablespoons of the drippings. Crumble bacon. Add ham. Saute until slightly browned. Add remaining ingredients except parsley. Bring to a boil. Cover, remove from heat, and let stand 5 minutes. Add parsley just before serving. (If chowde becomes too thick, add a little water. ) Makes 8 to 10 servings.
