Blend the stewed tomatoes and crushed tomatoes in a blender. In a stock pot or large kettle, brown the ground beef with the onions, peppers, and garlic. Pour in tomatoes, and reduce heat. Add sugar, basil, bay leaves and oregano, and simmer about 40 minutes.
Remove bay leaves and season with salt and pepper before serving.
I found this recipe on the internet a long time ago, but the originator of the recipe is unknown. It is presented here with his own comments. This is better than any spaghetti sauce I have EVER tried!

Professor48This sauce is delicious. Before I got this recipe I use to use Ragu or Prego spaghetti sauce. It never tasted right. This just screams Italian. Thanks.1y ago
Farfadette150never a disappointment. I prefer carrots over peppers.1y ago
Professor48This was some of the best spaghetti I've made so far. I made a large amount and the whole family ate off of it for the next three days. It even tasted better after a day or two. Thanks for the recipe.1y ago

MrsswillTastes great. I changed a few things. I halved the sugar and added a Half a cup of wine, did half Italian sausage and half beef and used two can of diced tomatoes. Next time I will also blend th tomatoes more since mine cam out more like marinara.2y ago
