Suggest a better descriptionCombine all the ingredients in a soup pot; mix well. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 1 hour, or until the peas are soft and thoroughly cooked, stirring occasionally. Note: To add a traditional smoky ham flavor, stir in 1 teaspoon of liquid smoke (found in the supermarket spice section) after the soup comes to a boil. For a heartier soup, add some chopped deli ham or smoked turkey. Air date: January 4, 1999.
