The Best Beef Stroganoff

I have followed dozens of recipes for this dish and have combined the things I like from some and left out some stuff from others to perfect this dish.

"I love Stroganoff, and this recipe was good. Easy to make with ingreadients I had in the house. Except I was short on the amount of sour cream I had in the fridge. My sauce was looking pretty thick, (plus I had more than a pound of meat), so I added about 1/2 can mushroom soup and a few table spoons of milk to get to the right consistancy. Then I always add a couple splashes of white wine to my stroanoff. Thank you. It pleased my whole family."


4 slices Bacon; fried drained and chopped
1 pound Round or sirloin steak; sliced thin
Flour; for dredging
1 cup Onions; slice
2 cloves Garlic; minced
2 cups Water
1 cube Beef builion
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon Nutmeg
1 teaspoon Pepper
1 teaspoon Seasoned salt
8 oz Fresh mushrooms
1 cup Sour cream
1 bag Wide egg noodles; cooked per directions on package

Original recipe makes 4 Servings



Fry bacon and move to paper towel.

Dredge meat in flour (fry in bacon grease to brown). Saute onion for 2 minutes, add garlic and saute 1 more minute. Add water, bring to boil. add builion cube, worcestershire sauce, nutmeg, pepper & seasoned salt.

Stir and return to boil. Simmer till fork tender about 1 1/2 to 2 hours, adding water as needed. Add mushrooms, heat until they shrink a little. Fold in sour cream, heat thru but do not return to boil. Sprinkle bacon over top and server over wide egg noodles.

This is my finished product. We had a nice glass of chardonnay with it. It was absolutely delicious.


This was so good. Used Baby Bella Mushrooms!

great recipe... I added a nice spash of sherry after stirring in the sour cream. The flavor was PERFECTION.

I added one of those double bouillon cubes instead of a regular sized one and it came out great anyway

I love your recipe specifically because it is not bland. The addition of the nutmeg, Worchester, and bacon make your Stroganoff delish! I make this twice a month in the winter.

Delicious recipe! A few of the reviewers complained about the fact that it is fairly bland, and I found the same thing-ive learned from another stroganoff recipe that the solution to this is red wine and ketchup. I know it sounds weird but try small amounts and work your way up, according to your own tastes. It will give the sauce more body and depth. Yum!

I'm making it now and it isn't bland at all. If it's bland, then it probably wasn't properly seasoned! I used Freddie's seasoned salt and a great red and black pepper blend from Penzey's spices. Very delicious! - swims58 8m ago

I didn't realize I was almost out of sour cream, but this tastes amazing with only a couple spoonfuls! I don't think I'm gonna share tonight. I did add more of the season salt and nutmeg. I learned a long time ago to season to our taste. First time ever making stroganoff and I believe it's going to be a hit and on our menu rotation! Thank you.
