Suggest a better descriptionCream shortening and sugar. Add well-beaten egg yolks. Sift flour. Measure 1/2 cup and sift with cream of tartar, salt, and baking soda. Combine with egg mixture. Mix thoroughly. Add stiffly beaten egg whites and flavoring. Add sufficient flour to make a soft dough. Turn onto lightly floured board. Roll in sheet 1/8 inch thick. Cut with floured cutter. Place on slightly oiled baking sheet. Bake in hot oven (400 F) about 10 minutes. 50 servings. Sara Hentz, Newberry, S.C.
