Pound Cake refers to a type of cake traditionally made with a pound of butter, a poutn of eggs, a pound of flour and a pound of sugar. However, any cake made with a 1:1:1:1 ratio, by weight, of flour, butter, eggs, and sugar may also be called a pound cake, as it yields the same results. Pound cakes are generally baked in either a Bundt mold or loaf pan and are often served lightly glazed or with a coat of icing.

Tip: When adding ground spices to bread or cake batter, cream the spices with the butter and sugar instead of adding them with the other dry ingredients. The fat in the butter helps disperse the flavors of the spices for a much more intense taste.
