Saying Hello

Hi everyone,

I am new to BigOven, but Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday. The centerpiece turkey is usually herb and aromatic roasted, and I love looking for new side dishes to try each year.

I haven't started thinking about Thanksgiving this year yet -- still waiting for summer to really show up. Still, finding this Thanksgiving group does get me thinking...

We will have thanksgiving with my father, brother and sister-in-law and their 2 kids. Thankfully, everyone will be invading my father's house. In addition to turkey he is going to make prime rib. I am trying to convince him to brine the turkey this year. The day after will be joining our "orphan" friends for another meal. As always, I will be the pie girl.

I will be making my special pumpkin pie; I might post the recipe soon but I haven't decided if I want to hang on to my special secrets. I will also make pumpkin cheesecake (yummy) and pumpkin gooey cake which is a Paula Deen creation that I recently discovered. The poached pears look delicious. I have always wanted to try them. I think fried or baked apples are always good dessert alternative for non-pumpkin people (who must be insane.) - mcguirkk

My husband isn't a big fan of green bean casserole so I ussually make french cut green beans with a garlic butter sauce. I am also making butternut squash risotto this year which is delicious.

Hi All! I am new to this site. I will be making a corn pudding and sweet potato casserole and waldorf salad. I love waldorf salad! I only make it on Holidays so I have something to look forward to after all the cooking. LOL!!

My Thanksgiving Menu is currently in progress. Here is the first draft:

Starter

Butternut Squash Soup
Mixed Green Salad with Dried Cherries and Goat Cheese

Entree

Roast Turkey
Gravy
Traditional Bread Stuffing with Raisins and Currants
Mashed Potatoes
Oven Roasted Sweet Red Onion Relish

Dessert

Ginger Poached Pears
or choice of Sorbets
Port, Coffee, After-dinner drinks

Hello! I just joined this morning to get some ideas. Two side dishes that I am making are squash casserole and broccoli casserole. I usually always make a big pot of pinto beans too. Annie - the broccoli salad sounds good. Do you have your recipe on the website?

It's that time of year again!

Getting ready for Thanksgiving, 2008.

What are your food plans for Thanksgiving 2008? I'll be doing a dinner with my relatives from all across the country, and we need a turkey that can be made within 2 days. I think I'll call ahead to the market to make sure they have a fresh one ready for pickup. The piquant cranberry sauce (linked in this group) is always a favorite pairing, as is my mom's traditional bread stuffing. You?
