has any one made any sourdough starters or breads

I made homemade doughnuts a couple of days ago and they tasted like they came from a real doughnut shop.I was suprised just how good this recipe was.

I capture wild yeast for my sourdough starter. It's embarrassingly simple but always impresses folks for some reason. Here's an outstanding tutorial: http://www.thefreshloaf.com/node/233

I've used the recipe below in my bread machine, and the loaf is always gone in no time. http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Plain-and-Simple-Sourdough-Bread/Detail.aspx

My MIL particularly favors this recipe b/c she's allergic to milk.

I use a starter made with grapes, bread flour and purified water, has been going great guns for the last 10 years,,

3 oz. Grapes  ( I used green as the red made my chef purpleish)

9 oz. Bread flour

9 oz. water

Combine 3 oz. water , 3 oz bread flour with the grapes, stir together, make a stiff dough, cover and let sit atleast 24. hours, until there are lots of bubbles, remove grapes, add remaining flour and water, stir very well, cover again, let sit 24 more hours, and then you have a start on your starter  :)

Combine

Hi, I have been making sourdough breads of all kinds, for 37 years. That is how long I have had my original starter. We also love biscuits, rolls, pancakes, and the list goes on and on.I am always looking for new recipes using sourdough. My kids are all grown now, but my oldest son's wife has a starter which I gave her from mine, and she makes bread. My next son also has one I gave him, and he makes 'taco twist' bread. Its the only one he makes, but he keeps that starter going and healthy.I make some desserts with my starter also. I am glad to find a group on just sourdough!
