Subject: Making Cookbooks without retyping recipes

Someone mentioned retyping bigoven recipes into their word processors so they can print them out the way the want.  BigOven's "copy recipe text" feature can help you do this more quickly and easily.

Here's how I make a cookbook:

  • I organize my recipes in several BigOven recipe boxes.(@my_mains, @my_soups, etc.)
  • I show all recipes in one box. I click on the first recipe in the list, then hold down shift and click on the last recipe.  Now, all recipes are highlighted.
  • I use "Copy Recipe Text" from the Edit menu (or ctrl-t).
  • I paste the entire list of recipes into the word processor window.
  • I remove what I don't want, format the recipe parts to make them all easier to follow, insert page breaks, set page numbers, and add a table of contents.  I made  BigOvenPrintTool  to help.
  • I print that one section of recipes, punch holes, and put the section in a binder with a tabbed page at the beginning.
