Subject: Naples

I'm going to Naples for the first time in a month. Any suggestions as to sights to see, ristorante's, etc? My daughter in staioned there in the Navy.

Hi Cindoc,

If your daughter is stationed at Naples, I'm sure she can give you tons of guidance as to where to visit.

The problem is that you're spoiled for choice! Naples itself, I can't comment on, I've only ever driven around it or landed at its airport. The city itself has a bad reputation and tourists are always warned to be careful there - there's a lot of gangsterism.

But outside Naples there's a wealth of discovery to be done. Vesuvius, if you fancy visiting a live volcano (I never did!). Pompei, an utterly amazing preservation of an entire Roman city. Herculaneum, another preserved city overwhelmed by Vesuvius but only partly excavated. Amalfi, on the coast south of Naples and a journey along the Amalfi coast road will never be forgotten! From Amalfi you can catch a ferry to Capri (although I think it's a little over-rated myself) but the journey there is gorgeous calling in at places like Positano and visit from Amalfi up to Ravello with some of the most amazing views from this mountain village e.g. Sorrento is not too far away either and quite a famous tourist trap.

I could go on and on really but, you and your daughter get a map out once you arrive there. You won't have any problem filling your days!
