EttaBakes
Like many women who love to cook and bake, I've been taught, guided, and inspired by the women who have come before me, namely my mother and grandmother. Of all their lessons, what really sticks with me, each and every time I step into the kitchen, are two major things that I apparently learned by assimilation as they were never stated. The first is that you need to have confidence in what you’re doing. If you're constantly second guessing, you'll be too nervous to really let go and allow your taste buds take over, and that lack of confidence will show in the dish. And the second? Make it with love. Everything tastes better when you put your passion, your emotions, your love into whatever you’re making, and this transcends food. No matter what you’re doing, if you do it with enthusiasm, it'll come out better. I am so thankful for the lessons I learned in the kitchen from my mother and grandmother as they have most certainly made me the cook and baker I am today--not the best, not the worst, but definitely someone with a sense of confidence, adventure, and joy in my favorite room of the house.

Praline-pumpkin TorteAmazing! I made this torte for Thanksgiving and it was so much better than pumpkin pie! Everyone loved it. Next time I would (and I recommend) not let the cakes cool more than two minutes in the pan, as the praline pecans may stick to the pan rather than the cake. I would also add a little cream cheese to the whipped cream topping to make it a little more dense and less likely to squirt out the edge of the torte when you cut into it.

Grandma's Chocolate CakeWith its long list of ingredients, I was skeptical of this recipe at first. My fears were unfounded. This is a great chocolate lovers cake and it was super easy to make. The cake turned out very nice and soft and was soooo chocolateee. The only problem I had with the recipe was the Dutch-processed cocoa. I can't tell you how many stores had to searched before I found it. I will make this cake every time I can find an excuse or occasion!

Bread ConesThis was simply wonderful!! I made these bread cones and used both chicken salad and lobster salad as fillings to create an elegant entree for a luncheon. The recipe is fairly easy but does take some time. However, for a special occasion these bread cones were well worth the effort. Thanks for the great recipe!
