You can add any thing to it iv made it with caned corn my father made it with cornmeal anything you like This recipe was my fathers it started out as a flour,water and berger he ate it in the army. Iv been etaing it for 50 yrs now my kids for 20+yrs [I posted this recipe.]

It was very good but I cant leave well enough alone I doubled the receipt then I browned the meet first and added 1 more can of broth we like a lot of sauce no leftovers kids ate it up

but my wife doesn't like hot stuff I sneak a little in now or a little Frank's Red Hot just a little it gives it a little zip but its still just gravy Iv tried beer, bourbon real red wine
Its like the difference between chicken gravy and chicken soup big difference
That's what I'm going for. My gravy's are great (toot toot)lol but I want my stews to be more than just gravy
