What's for dinner?
Living in Manitoba there are many wonderful local berries that we can enjoy at various times of the year. Saskatoon's being my favorites, but there are also wild high-bush cranberries, very tart and good, chockcherries (not sure how one would enjoy them in large amounts, good for birds though including the recent alarmingly declining Grosbeak), and more. Hazelnuts are ripe in the fall, but one must compete with the squirrel's who know just when they are best to be picked, I think. And for fish Goldeye is the local fish I've enjoyed from Lake Winnipeg, but our lakes and rivers are ripe with species.

Apple Crisp

Cooking the apples yourself allows you to add any extra cinnamon, spice or sugar to taste. I like mine tart and spicy! Try varying the fruit. I sometimes just quickly add a sprinkling of blueberries or other berries (preferably frozen) on top of the apples before adding the final crust. [I posted this recipe.]
