I've made this a few times now as an appetizer and it's always a hit. I bake mine on a rack over a foil lined sheet pan...way less greasy. Also reheat well if you want to make ahead and just pop into the microwave when your guests arrive.
These little appetizers are sooo good. I've been making them for years (the recipe I have calls them "Mary Vickers") and they're always a hit. Great to make around the holidays, freeze and pop out when company comes by.
I added some sesame oil and soy sauce to the filling, and have added cooked and drained ground pork and even a can of crab meat. It's a great recipe on its own or to build on. It's also a nice change from heavy, pastry laden appetizers.
