Although I used the butter, I don't think that it's necessary. It was a bit runny or very creamy so I think that the amount of cheese can be cut as well. I used the block kind of Velvetta so maybe that was creamier than the recommended sliced kind. The leftovers were better because the sauces thickened. — Beachbumette 12/28/2011
