Easy to make with amazing result! Made this several times now. The first time as described and it came out rather flat, it didn't rise but it expanded its "footprint" if you will. The second time I used a long shallow cast iron pan and laid the loafs end to end, with a barrier of folded (and oiled!) tin foil to separate them. The third time I thought I'd save myself the trouble and make one big loaf, which came out.... under cooked. So, when making 1 loaf, add 15 minutes oven time! 2/20/2014

Used the largest amount of flour and had enough to make the lattice top. Didn't have a tool to make that beautiful harmonica top, so tedious work, had to cut the top evenly with a paring knife row by row to make it, but it came out great (said she proudly LOL) It tasted just like the Vlaai I had eaten in the Netherlands! When I didn't have the correct ingredients, I added a can of broccoli cream soup and peas instead of broccoli (of course didn't make a roux) and it still came out great. Also left out the spicy seasoning for the panko. Still a very flavorful dish! — knay111 12/28/2013

Made this cake several times. Found that a nice big layer of brown sugar and walnut mix (way more than the recipe calls for, makes it absolutely irresistable. Tried a new tactic and gadget. Shave the pieces with my new gadget into a bowl with cold water (splash of oil) then transfer into the boiling water., instead of shaving over the stove, where the dough starts to get sticky real fast. Seems to work pretty good! Made half the recipe, just need to start mixing without the water... tend to add half the amount of water without taking into account that a whole egg has more liquid than the 1/2 egg needed for half the recipe! — knay111 7/15/2012

These taste delectable and are always SO popular at parties, I can scarce keep them in supply! Indeed yes, knay111 I agree completely that these like so many hors d'oeuvres and souffles taste fine yet lack a certain beauty, but thank goodness looks aren't everything! Thank you for marking it that you'd definitely make it again!
