Long Connecticut winters are ideal for cooking, and keep the house warm too. I enjoy cooking, and any kind of meat is a fun thing to cook right now. I love trying out new recipies.

My mom came from Germany, my Dad from Hungary and I grew up eating a lot of ethnic dishes. I wish I got my mom's kuchen recipe.

One Thanksgiving,we had 15 for dinner. I cooked a turkey and a goose. What a great time.

Red Bean, Rice and Sausage Soup

Red Bean, Rice and Sausage Soup

So easy to make! one pot and that's it. Since kidney beans don't come in 16 oz cans anymore, I added 2 cans 1pound 13 ounces each. (I like beans). This is going to be a staple around here! The recipe on my computer didn't show how much beans. But my iPad Air and iphone6 showed the proper amount. Windows 8 sucks!. The recipe on my macbook pro running safari doesn't display the correct amount of beans ether. it's cut off on Firefox. I would recommend a nice rye bread with butter to accompany this dish. This was sooooo good! Thank you for posting it. 11/6/2014

Great dish! I added an extra layer of noodles to make 2 layers instead of 2. And I still had another layer of noodles left over. Next time I'll double the sauce! Extremely delicious !!! — brentnhunter 5/8/2013

Perfect for tonight's low of -10 degrees. Heated the whole house with the best smell. This is my 10th time making this. As always, comes out perfect ! To the person who commented " bland", she probably had American paprika. Please switch to authentic Hungarian sweet paprika. — sgrishka 1/24/2013

Rosti (Swiss Fried Potatoes)

Rosti (Swiss Fried Potatoes)

This IS a timeless recipe. I did take some shortcuts tho. I cooked the bacon, and let it set. I boiled the potatoes for 5 minutes. (15 is too long). Then I grated them after peeling, and 1/2 way through grating, I added pure olive oil so they wouldn't stick, adding then the onion and bacon. (sprinkle the oil all over 1/2 way through). Then I preheated the oven to 350, and put a cookie sheet on the grate to warm up. Incredibly, the mixture flew into a greased round pan, with butter sliced over it (1/2 stick total) and made it into the oven for an hour. Everyone loved it because I was able to make a steak while this bugger was cooking. 6/22/2011

Thank you for the nice comment on my page. Glad you liked the black bean and corn salad. I often make this as one of my sides to mexican meals.

last 1/2 hour would be fine for the stew, that way they keep most of there flavor and remain somewhat firm.
