About Me

I live outside a small town in Texas on 18 acres. I like living in the country, road trips, the beach, cooking, computer games, reading, fishing, gardening, and spending time with my family. I love animals and have two cats and two Labradors. I have two grown sons and a little grandson. My oldest son is a U.S. Marine and he's currently stationed in Virginia Beach, VA with his wife and son. I miss them and many of the recipes I've posted here on Big Oven are so my son can use them when he misses mom's cooking.
I have worked at Sanmina-SCI in Allen, Texas for 31 years as a Manufacturing Production Controller and I'm currently pursuing a degree in business. The thought of beginning a college education at the tender age of 50 is both frightening and exciting.

Some of my favorite foods

Mexican food is my favorite, but I also love steak and vegetables of all types. I like to cook anything that pleases my family, trying new recipes and sharing them. I enjoy collecting cookbooks of all types, but especially older books. Right now, I'm trying to find new chili and slow cooker recipes, while keeping my eyes open for anything else of interest. My main problem is my husband doesn't like to try new recipes too often and he's my taste tester and gentle critic, so I have to space them out and keep him happy!
