About me

I am self employed.  Have been for the last 8 years.  With the economic down turn I have slowed greatly with work so I am trying to find ways to save some money.  I have been trying to put away some "food stash" for uncertain times and with the current political "leader" it seems like times are more uncertain then they have been for a long time.  I have been doing a lot of research on whole foods and am finding that I take great pride in growing / producing / cooking & eating things that I grow and eat.  This way I know how to make it should the day come the grocery store self is empty & I know exactly what is in what I am eating.  I have purchased a few items that help me in the Kitchen.  A Bosch "Kitchen O-Matic 5000" and a grain grinder that has stone grinding & steel cutting options.  With the research that I have done....   I am now getting SSSSOOOOOOO much more out of the food that I eat.  Better taste hands down and more of the nutrition that is lost in most of todays processing/preserving practices.

My Favorite Foods

I have found that I enjoy cooking many things.  I started years ago on the Grill.  I cook a steak that would make you think about "slappen your mama".  I have since with extra time on my hand found I also enjoy cooking in the kitchen more.  Breads, wafles, muffins and mostly things with whole grains in them.  I have found a couple of recipeis for breads that I have adapted to use fresh ground whole red wheat berries (higer gluten content) that has become an area favorite.  I am finding with the more cooking & baking that I am doing I enjoy the "old timey" ways of doing some of the stuff.  There is an art and an appreciation to doing things like they used to in the old days....   however I do admit I enjoy the "Kitchen O-Matic 5000" for some of the dirty work I do actually still grind all my own grain by hand.  I find the taste of those grains FAR EXCEED the flavor of what you get in the store.  And with some of my research I have discovered that what you get in the store really is not what you need to bake with half the time anyway.
