About Me

I am a mother of four children, ages 17, 14, 10 and 6.  I come from a family of country cooks, where recipes were often not used or were in your head.  I love to cook when I have others to eat it.  I also love to try new things.

We lived in France for about 3 years, and I learned to cook in the French way while there.  However, when I shared my American meals with our French friends, they always loved them.  I shared my recipes with them, and them with me.

I am more of a cook than a pastry chef.  I don't make a good pie crust or make bread by hand.  I do love to use my bread maker to make homemade breads and doughs, though.  I make great cakes and desserts, or so I am told.

I like to travel, play video games, read books (I am trying to write one now), play piano, sing, and go dancing with my husband.  I also like camping and fishing, and we try to do that at least a couple of times every summer.

Some of my favorite foods

I love to eat fondues, cheeses, breads, chocolate, steak, salmon, and raclette.  I remember asking my mother what kind of cake she wanted for her birthday when I was about 16.  She showed me a picture of a chocolate mocha log cake on the cover of a magazine.  I made it for her, and it was good!  I also love to cook for family and friends, and my most special memories of holidays are about sharing foods our families love.

When I moved away from home, my mother gave me a recipe booklet that she created of the recipes she used to make that I loved.  I still have that book, and I use those recipes often.  It is probably the best gift I was ever given.

My kids lived in France, and as a result, my kids like brie cheese, smoked salmon, crepes, raclette, and fondues.  They also eat shellfish, including the different varieties of snails that were available there.  I am allergic to shellfish, but I can and do cook it for my family.

My most exciting discovery was that I could make the TGIF Jack Daniels glaze at home!.  I found that out when we lived in France and I was missing American food.

I am not obsessed with food.  It does not rule my life.  But I do love the taste, smells, and feelings foods provide, and I love to share them with others.
