About me
I live in Portland Oregon suburbs - edge of urban/wine country! We are 15 minutes from city life and 5 minutes from wine tasting and fresh farm vegetable picking. I love to cook and have been doing so for 39 years, raising four children and now cooking for my husband and myself and whoever happens to be around. I am a nurse teaching nursing in a college program and also work part time as a nurse IV therapist in a hospital. I love working out, cooking, decorating and playing with my grandchildren. My youngest child will be marrying his bride this August and I have the special privilege this summer of teaching her how to cook!
My Favorite Foods
I love almost all food, but cook what we call here in Oregon, Northwest Cuisine - fresh fish, fresh veggies, fresh, fresh, fresh. My favorite foods are chocolate, beef, fish, sushi, pastas. I do have my all time favorite standbys and quick throw together favorities that I have hung onto through the years however. My special occasions of cooking are usually when my children and their spouses and grandchildren are around at which time I cook in mass quantities! My memories of favorite cooking times center mostly around when we were vegetarian for 5 years and learned the most yummy recipes as a result, and when my children were young and I grew my own vegetables, canned fruit, made jam, baked all my bread, grew tomatoes from which I made my own marinara sauce and made my butter from raw milk.
My cooking has evolved since the kids left the nest into a more gourmet, organic (as much as possible) no recipe type affair that costs a bit more. Every night is a creative event - which will make it a challenge for me to submit recipes! It will definitely be a slow process, but I would like to give it a try. My most recent blessing has been that of my friend and neighbor of the past year who humbles me in repect to my cooking abilities. She is an amazing chef, and I am now learning new ideas from her.
