My Favorite Foods
My favorite foods are almost anything with shellfish: shrimp, crab, lobster, mussels, oysters. I like salmon a lot, but don't really care for most other fish. My next favorite is soups and stews, those are real comfort food for me.
My mother didn't cook unless she really was pushed. Dad liked to cook, but he always made big pots of chili, soup, spaghetti, anything that would feed a crowd for cheap.
For the first 14 years in my house, we lived with a terrible, malfunctioning stove that would make cooking a chore. The oven would either burn the food or not cook it enough and there was no formula for success. I was always cussing it, and it was a family joke that I couldn't cook.
When we renovated the kitchen and I got a gas stove with dual ovens, I would often hear, "Hey, maybe it really was the stove!" I've been an avid cook ever since then, continually trying new recipes and techniques. I'm sure I will be cooking until I'm dead or not able to wield a spoon!
