Thanks for review and recipe tips you gave my families Pumpkin Pie Cake recipe! I will definitely be trying your tip for precooking the canned pumpkin (when I use it) and I also agree with you 100% on the use of individual spices -verses- using pumpkin pie spice. My maternal grandmother used to make this cake and shared the recipe with me. When posting recipes, I always try to keep the recipe as original as possible, making changes only for flagrant errors or safety concerns. For me, most recipes are merely words on paper, a guideline or a starting point from which to improvise. In the case of this cake, we often use our own fresh pumpkin, individual spices to taste, and skip the boxed cake mix in favor of a cake made from scratch...other times, we simply follow the recipe.
