To thaw a frozen food so it is ready to cook.

Techniques to defrost include:

1)  Leaving the item at room temperature, in a bowl or on a plate

2)  Putting the item in a refrigerator, in a bowl or on a plate

3)  Placing the item in a ziploc bag and in a large bowl or sink filled with warm water

4)  Defrosting on low or "defrost" in the microwave
