Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 8 " square pan or 12" Cast Iron Skillett. Combine corn meal, flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a medium bowl. Combine milk, oil , butter or margarine and egg in a samll bowl, mix well. Add milk mixture to flour mixture; stir just until blended. Pour into prepared pan. Bake for 35 minutes or until wooden tooth pick inserted in center comes out clean.
For muffins - spoon batter into 10 - 12 greased or paper lined muffin cups filling 2/3 full. Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes.
