Reserve 3/4 cup of almonds for the top.
Melt butter in heavy pot, then add sugar, water, and syrup. cook slowly and evenly to 240 degrees. Add remaining nuts and cook to 290 degrees. Pour hot mixture onto cookie sheet; should be about 1/4 inch thick. Let cool and coat with chocolate melted in double boiler, then dust with nuts while chocolate is still soft. Turn over and repeat on other side if desired
