Cream softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla; mix well. Stir in flour. Press mixture into bottom of buttered 13x9" baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Combine eggs, sugar and vanilla; beat until well blended. Stir in combined flour, baking powder and salt. Fold in coconut and almonds. Spread over baked layer. Bake 20 to 25 minutes longer.
