Each item is cut into bite size pieces. The recipe says to use 1/2 cup each of the olives cut but I just put the whole jar in there uncut. You can make the mixture ahead of time and just add it to your salad mix when ready to serve. Once you add it to your lettuce you then tear the basil leaves and mix them in.
