From Todd Speece's sister Doey. Great to make ahead of time, stays fresh for several days and freezes very well. Can double recipe and bake longer in 12x 9 lasagna pan.
PreHeat oven to 325. Cream sugar and butter in large mixing bowl, then add eggs. Sift dry ingredients together and then add to the beaten sugar and butter. Batter will be stiff. Then add chopped apples and nuts and beat until we'll mixed. Pour batter into greased 8x8 baking pan. Bake at 325 for about an hour until toothpick comes out clean, when inserted in center.
When ready to serve, make hard sauce below, and serve hot to pour over each portion.
Hard Sauce
1 cup sugar
1/4 pound butter real only
1 cup half and half
1 teaspoon vanilla
Combine ingredients in a heavy sauce pan and cook over low heat until slightly thickened. Cook to. Desired thickness, and serve.
