This recipe is a tasty twist on an all-time favorite dessert--apple pie. The crust is light and flaky as ever, but you get a decadent layer of cream cheese filling below the apples.
Directions for the Crust:
Cream together the butter, sugar and vanilla. Bend in the flour. Pat dough into the bottom and 1" up the sides of a 10" springform pan.
Directions for the filling:
Combine the cream cheese and 1/4 cup of sugar. Add the egg and vanilla and beat until smooth. Pour into the pan.
In a large bowl, combine the 1/3 cup of sugar and the cinnamon. Add the apples and toss to coat. Arrange the apples over the cream cheese mixture. Sprinkle with the almonds.
Bake for 10 minutes in a pre-heated 450-degree oven. Reduce the heat to 400-degrees and bake for an additional 35 minutes or until the apples are tender.
Optional: Serve with a dollop of fresh whipped cream on top and a dash of nutmeg.
