Yummy gooey apple crumble for a cold night; serve with vanilla ice cream and custard! For a variation, you can add frozen berries or raisins to the apple mix before topping with the crumble mixture
Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius
Combine apple, raisins, cloves, cinnamon, mixed spice and 1/2 cup of brown sugar along with 1/4 water into a saucepan and gently simmer, stirring occasionally, until apple is slightly softened (you still want to be able to bite into it!).
Meanwhile, combine flour, remaining brown sugar and oats and rub in the butter with your fingertips until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.
Strain the apple (discarding the liquid) and spoon the apple mixture into a 1.5L (6 cup) capacity oven proof dish. Scatter the flour mix over the apples. Do not press down; allow the "crumbs" to stay crumbly!!
Bake in oven for 20-25 minutes or until the top is lightly golden.
Serve your crumble with ice cream and custard
When straining the apple mix, if you are able to pick out the 2 individual cloves, do it! Otherwise, warn your guests, as a mouthful of clove can be very overpowering!!
