Preheat oven to 350.
Toast 1/2 cup of pecans in microwave until fragrant, stirring at 2 minute intervals.
Set aside.
Beat the sour cream with the next 3 ingredients at low speed, just until blended.
In a medium bowl, combine the flour with the remaining dry ingredients, whisking to blend.
Add flour mixture to the sour cream mixture in 3 additions, stirring just to combine after each addition.
Stir in chopped apple and 1/2 cup toasted pecans.
Spoon batter into a greased loaf pan.
Sprinkle with the remaining 1 cup chopped pecans, pressing the nuts gently into the batter.
Bake 1 hour.
Shield the loaf with aluminum foil for the last 15 minutes to prevent over browning.
Cool in pan for 10 minutes.
Remove from pan and place on wire rack.
Combine butter and sugar in a microwave safe bowl.
Cook on high about 3 minutes, stirring after each minute until the sugar is melted.
Spoon over the loaf and allow to cool completely.
