Heat oven to 180C
Sift dry ingredients.
Rub in butter.
Add sugar, egg and sufficient milk to form a firm dough. Knead until smooth.
Divide in half, roll out each piece to fit cake tin.
Place one piece of dough in tin, layer apples on top and sprinkle with sugar.
Add next piece of dough.
Bake 25 minutes
When cold sprinkle with icing sugar and cut into squares.
