This is a recipe from my mother. These cookes are absolutely delicious and are not for the feint hearted if you're looking for health food. These are killer cookies....
Soften butter thoroughly. Add sugar and mix well. Add flour, baking soda, vanilla and mix gently but thoroughly, Add walnuts and mix in. Form 1 to 1-1/2" balls of dough in your hand. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 350 deg. F. for 12 to 15 minutes or until browning begins to occur.
Let cool thoroughly and sprinkle (or dredge, if you dare!) the cookies in powdered sugar.
