Preheat oven to 150C. Line an oven with baking paper.
In a clean bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form, then, still beating, gradually add the sugar and lastly the vinegar. Continue beating until firm peaks form. Set this meringue mixture aside.
Mix together the apples, sultanas, cinnamon and walnuts.
Spoon 2/3 of the meringue onto the tray in a long log shape. With the back of a spoon, make an indent/channel along the length of it (being careful not to go too deep as to expose the baking paper) and carefully spoon the apple mixture into it. Cover with the remaining mixture and smooth it over so that the filling is completely encased in the meringue.
Bake for 30 - 45 minutes until the meringue is hard and crunchy on the outside, Serve slices, warm or cold, with fresh whipped cream and ice-cream.
