Beat the eggs just enough to blend evenly. Stir in and sugar and salt. Add slowly , beating with a fork, the milk and vanilla. Pour into buttered custard cups. Sprinkle with nutmeg. Set in a shallow pan on a paper towel. Pour into the pan hot water about 1 inch deep. Bake at 325 degrees about 1 hour or at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes.
As a variation you can use brown or maple sugar.
