Prick potatoes with a fork. Place on foil lined tray. Roast for 60 minutes or until very tender.
Remove potatoes from oven and cool slightly. Peel and discard skin.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Place potatoes in a bowl. Add cream, 4 tablespoons butter, maple syrup, and salt.
Whip until very smooth.
Butter a 2 qt casserole dish and add potato mixture.
For topping combine bread crumbs, 4 tablespoons melted butter, brown sugar, and pecans. Sprinkle over potatoes.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
Check after 20 minutes. Cover loosely with foil if it is browning too quickly.
May be assembled 1 day in advance. Before baking, take casserole out of refrigerator for 30 minutes. Cover and bake for 40 minutes at 350 degrees. Uncover and bake for additional 10-15 minutes. Total of 50-55 minutes.
