Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Sift flour, measure, and add salt. Add baking powder and sift again. Cut in shortening gradually, add milk, and make into a soft dough. Roll 1/2 inch thick, cut with a biscuit cutter and bake in the oven for 12 minutes.
